Anemones & Jasmine Vines - Oil
Sat, 20 Jan 2018 - One Day Workshop - 10am - 4pm

MazArt Studio kicks of the 2018 season with one of Marion's new flower paintings. Marion has chosen her own creation to offer students the chance to paint flowers against a black background, using the white of the anemone flower as the stark foreground contrast. The pot and leaves are muted to give this composition a ghosted shadow effect.

Many of you will have joined Marion in the studio, or online, to create all manner of amazing flowers but this has added interest because of the limited colour pallet and because you will be taught how to lay out your floral composition freehand and without tracings. She will show you how to structure the flowers and vase and for those who havent painted flowers with Marion before, there's the added wonder of watching her show you how to create flowers, vines and leaves using the unique wet into wet floral brushstrokes that she has so skillfully adapted into her paintings.

A wonderful and different workshop for MazArt regulars and newcomers alike. Suitable for artists of all abilities and beginner artists are very welcome.

Winter Flight - Acrylic
Sat, 27 Jan 2018 - One Day Workshop - 10am - 5pm

Join Marion in this her first wildlife MazArt workshop of 2018. Marion has chosen to teach this on a panoramic canvas board to capture the full scope and dramatic scale of the eagle wingspan. This subject is a perfect fit for quick drying acrylics and allows Marion to create the semi obscured winter background and the wonderful bird of prey forground all in the same day. However, its a full day with a later finish time to allow students the time to finish the more complex areas of the painting.

During this panoramic winter wildlife you will learn how to create the illusion of distant trees to highlight the dramatic features of the eagle and the supporting tree, giving it that incredibly vibrant 3D look. The workshop will be build up over many layers and Marion will teach you how to get to grips with acrylics blending, particularly on the eagle.

Although a full day, this workshop is suitable for artists of all abilities and beginner artists are very welcome. There's much to learn and places will go very quickly.

Masterclass Coffee Pot and Fruit - Oils
Thu, 17 May 2018 - Three consecutive Thursdays - 10am - 4pm

Join Marion on her first Masterclass of 2018 beginning on Thursday 17th May and then the two further consecutive Thursdays of the 24th and 31st May 2017.  This masterclass is different because youll firstly be learning to draw your composition with a brush freehand. Marion has chosen well with this subject, each object is of a different shape, set against a dark background. The scene comprises of basic geometric shapes from the curving sphere of the fruit, set against the clean cone of the coffee pot.

During this intensive three day workshop, day one will begin by toning the canvas with a wash of oils and using a bristle filbert brush the student will be encouraged to draw and sculpt this still life using both line and tonal volume. By the end of day one each student will have a freehand underpainting using only burnt umber. On Day two the first colour layers will be introduced. This blocking in phase can be daunting but with your tonal sketch fully dried (fast dry medium is used) the student is encouraged to use this initial stage as a "Map" for this second layer.  Day three brings about the final details and the elements of sparkle and shine that really make a painting come to life.
